How Is the CPI Calculated?
The CPI tracks each month the price of a fixed basket of thousands of goods and services consumed by households. The weight of each item in the basket is determined by its share of the household budget. The change in the index relative to the same month of the previous year is called “annual inflation.”
Monthly and Annual Inflation
Monthly inflation is the percentage change in the index relative to the previous month. Annual inflation is the change relative to 12 months earlier and shows the general trend of price increases. TÜİK announces CPI data on the first business day of each month.
